About

I work where the hardware meets the system that accounts for it.

I work at the seam between physical hardware and the software that accounts for it. On one side of that seam is a repair bench: laptops, boards, diagnostics, a soldering iron. On the other is a full inventory and asset-disposition platform I designed and wrote to handle what comes off it.

Most engineers pick a side. Staying on both is what lets me build tooling that reflects how the work is actually done — because I have done the work. When I model a pallet, a grade or a wipe certificate in software, I am modelling a process I have run by hand.

That combination now spans IT asset disposition, electronics repair, full-stack web engineering, AI-assisted automation and the business systems that tie them together.

Timeline

How it developed

Not a career ladder — a widening of scope, from a single device on a bench to the systems that run around it.

  1. 2012Role

    Electronics foundation

Solar installation, industrial electrical maintenance and an electrician apprenticeship, alongside a physics degree. Circuitry, diagnostics and a soldering iron, before any of it was about computers.

  2. 2015Role

    Started on the bench

Computer, laptop and mobile repair for individual and business clients at Skylight Computech. Learning the hardware by taking it apart, and learning the economics of repair by living with the consequences of a wrong call.

  3. 2019Project

    Board-level repair

Moved from part replacement to component-level diagnosis — power rail tracing, short localisation and rework. This is where scrap started becoming stock again.

  4. 2023Education

    M.Sc. International Business Management

Sunderland. The commercial half of the picture — how an operation is costed and run, not only how the hardware works.

  5. 2024Role

    Into ITAD

Joined A.L.S Trades as Senior Computer Repair & Systems Technician: the repair bench, the grading standard, and responsibility for what happens to a device after it arrives.

  6. 2025Project

    ITAD platform in production

A full asset-disposition system shipped in phases into a live warehouse: three tracking granularities, offline-capable scanning, sales, costing and reporting.

  7. 2025Project

Hardware audit & secure erasure tooling

A bootable Linux tool that captures a complete hardware profile from a device with no operating system, performs a verified NIST-aligned purge, and feeds the compliance certificate.

  8. 2026Project

    Workforce platform

A time-logging tool that became a thirteen-module HR platform — built modular from the start so the scope could grow without a rewrite.

Experience

Where I've done it

Senior Computer Repair & Systems Technician

A.L.S Trades Ltd · Hertford, UK

Jul 2024 — Present

Running the technical side of an IT asset disposition operation — the repair bench, the grading standard, and the software that accounts for both.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair laptops, desktops and peripherals to component level, recovering units otherwise graded for parts.
  • Set and apply the grading standard that determines whether a device is refurbished, sold for parts or scrapped.
  • Design, build and operate the inventory and asset-disposition platform the business runs on.
  • Perform and certify secure data erasure to a documented, auditable standard.
  • Manage spare parts, tooling and repair documentation.

Achievements

  • Replaced a spreadsheet-and-legacy-tool process with a single auditable system covering receiving through to sales.
  • Built hardware capture tooling that works on wiped, operating-system-less devices — removing manual specification entry from intake.
  • Made Certificates of Data Erasure a generated artefact tied to a verified wipe, rather than a hand-assembled document.

Electronics & Installation Technician — earlier roles

Ashadam Solar · European Soaps & Detergent · Gefoco Nig. Ltd

Jan 2012 — Dec 2014

Installation and maintenance engineering, industrial electrical maintenance and an electrician apprenticeship — where the electronics foundation was built.

Responsibilities

  • Solar installation and maintenance engineering.
  • Industrial electrical and maintenance work during industrial training.
  • Electrician apprenticeship covering wiring, circuitry and safe working practice.

Achievements

  • Built the foundation in electronics, circuitry and diagnostics that board-level repair later depended on.
