Repair-Aware Grading: Component-Level Diagnostics as an Economic and Environmental Lever
In IT asset disposition, the grade assigned to a device determines whether it is refurbished, sold for parts, or scrapped — and that decision is bounded by the repair capability available to make it. This note argues that board-level diagnostic capability is not a separate service but a determinant of the grading standard itself, with measurable consequences for both resale value and material recovery.

Firmware-Level Data Sanitisation Across Heterogeneous Drives: A Field Study
Standards for media sanitisation describe what a compliant erase achieves, not what any given drive implements. This study reports on building a bootable sanitisation tool tested across NVMe and SATA hardware, and documents a recurring gap between the capabilities a drive advertises through one command interface and those it exposes through another. It argues that verification must be method-aware, and that a purge cannot always be verified by reading the medium back.

A Three-Tier Model for Asset Tracking Granularity in ITAD Systems
IT asset disposition software conventionally models every item as an individually serialised unit. This assumption fails for the majority of physical stock, which arrives as counted consumables or as mixed-quantity pallets. This paper proposes a three-tier model — serialised, bulk, and container — unified under a commercial purchase-lot abstraction, and reports on its implementation in a production warehouse system.
